A jewel in the wilderness. Visit this fabled back country lodge for outdoor adventures and the opportunity to rough it...
National Geographic Traveller Magazine ranked this location second-equal in The World’s Top Rated Islands, Coastlines and Beaches. Dotted with red-flowering pohutakawa trees and rocky outcroppings, the coastline of Helena Bay invites exploration, by land and by sea.
The main lodge surrounds a heated 25m swimming pool offering complete privacy from the coast. There is also a large gallery, extensive gym and sauna wing and a good selection of cosy rooms for private dining, all with sea views.
The lodge has brought the celebrated Michelin starred Ristorante Don Alfonso 1890 of Southern Italy to New Zealand. Under the direction and influence of Don Alfonso’s philosophy of respecting the local food culture, the kitchen incorporates the age-old traditions of Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. Significant investment has been made at Helena Bay to offer guests ‘Estate to Plate’ cuisine, with menus changing daily.
Accommodation is provided in five Villa Suites, each with its own terrace overlooking the tranquil waters of Helena Bay. Leica binoculars allow guests to see resident bird as well as visiting whales and dolphins.
Helena Bay estate holds an array of opportunities to explore. For those who would like to discover the 800 acres of forest and rolling grass hills, electric off-road vehicles are available. Or guests may simply walk along the beach and admire the view.
For the active traveller, trails for hiking and mountain-biking have been established through the native bush, linking the private beaches on the property. Nearby - by sea, land and air - there are endless options for activities ranging from the adrenaline-empowered to more refined and scenic. The Tutukaka coast and the Bay of Islands are only a short distance from Helena Bay and offer horse riding, golf, fishing trips, diving and much more.
